Craving something salty but still want to keep it healthy? Here is my ultimate list of go-to snacks, all gluten-free, plant-based, and packed with the perfect salty crunch!
Before we begin, I do have to highlight that some of the products mentioned in this list will contain natural flavourings, which is not the most healthy but common in savoury or vegan “cheese” products to give that umami boost or mimic the taste of real cheese.
You can read more about the health effects of natural and artificial flavourings on our body in my post here.
Moderation in whatever we eat is still key 😇
BISCUITS / CRACKERS
01.
Simple Mills, Almond Flour Crackers, Sun-Dried Tomato and Basil
- Gluten-free
- Vegan
- Corn, grain, gum-free
- Non-GMO
Ingredients: Nut & seed flour blend (almonds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds), tapioca starch, cassava flour, organic sunflower oil, sun-dried tomatoes, sea salt, organic onion, organic basil, organic garlic, organic oregano, organic pepper, rosemary extract
My love for Simple Mills cookies brought me to try other products in their range like their savoury crackers. I love their plain sea salt crackers paired with hummus or vegan cheese, but my top go-to favourite of them all would be this particular flavour!
Oh how this reminds me of eating Shapes biscuits as a kid, but in my opinion, way better! 🤩 This has excellent flavour on its own, all with 100% natural ingredients and without the use of any flavourings.
The flavour of sun-dried tomato, basil and spices really shines through in this one, which is complemented with a generous amount of salt sprinkles on top of each cracker.
This cracker is a literal mini pizza on a cracker, an umami flavour bomb that definitely satisfies any kind of salty cravings.
02.
Mary's Gone Cheezee Crackers, Cheddar
- Gluten-free
- Vegan
- USDA Organic
- Non-GMO
Ingredients: Chickpea flour, tapioca starch, palm fruit shortening, sunflower oil, sea salt, yeast extract, annatto extract (for color), natural flavour, paprika, baking soda, onion, garlic, lactic acid, xanthan gum, calcium carbonate, citric acid, rosemary extract
My search for a cheesy biscuit led me to Mary’s Gone Crackers. They do a good basic cracker which I have tried before, so when I saw that they did a cheesy biscuit, I had to try it. I love that their products are minimally processed and that they use only organic ingredients.
CRISPS / CHIPS
03.
Proper Crisps, Onion and Green Chives
- Gluten-free
- Vegan
Ingredients: Potatoes, high oleic sunflower oil, onions, sea salt, chives
These chips remind me of sour cream and onion flavoured chips! The flavour of the onion is really bold, robust and satisfying in this one.
Although there is no sour cream to impart a slight tanginess or creaminess, this chip doesn’t need any of that as flavour is definitely not lacking in any way. This is hands down my favourite potato crisp of all time 😍

04.
Hippeas Chickpea Puffs, Groovy White Cheddar
- Gluten-free
- Plant-based
- Non-GMO
- Allergy-friendly
Ingredients: Chickpea flour, rice flour, yellow pea flour, sunflower oil, salt, cane sugar, natural flavour, yeast extract, onion powder, garlic powder, citric acid, rosemary extract
Hippeas is a baked chickpea puff snack containing zero grams of cholesterol, trans fat and saturated fat. Great for those who are trying to avoid any snacks that are deep-fried.
These snacks are also allergy-friendly and free from milk, soy, wheat, egg, peanut, tree nut, fish, crustacean and sesame., which makes them school safe and suitable to be enjoyed by everyone.
This chickpea puff has a light and airy texture that reminds me of both Cheetos and Cheezels.
Flavour-wise I’d say that the cheese flavour is mild and smooth, with very similar flavour profile to that of real dairy white cheese.
If you are a fan of more sharp and pungent cheese flavours, definitely go for their other flavour – Nacho Vibes, which is also very good. Personally, I prefer the quiet subtlety of this flavour.
05.
SeaSnax, Organic Seaweed, Extra Virgin Olive Oil & Sea Salt
- Gluten-free
- Vegan
- USDA Organic
- Non-GMO
Ingredients: Organic seaweed, organic extra virgin olive oil, sea salt
Roasted seaweed snacks are very popular in Asia and I’ve been eating them since I was a kid. However most brands contain unhealthy ingredients like canola oil, MSG, gluten and flavourings.
SeaSnax however, does a healthy version of this popular snack with organic seaweed sourced from Korea. They also have other flavours like lime, chipotle and onion that are flavoured from spices or dried powders.
06.
Dang Foods, Coconut Chips Lightly Salted
- Gluten-free
- Vegan
- Non-GMO
Ingredients: Coconut, sea salt
Founded by two brothers with Thai-American heritage, Dang uses flavours they loved growing up and created them into delicious, real-ingredient snacks. Named after their mom, Dang, these coconut chips are the first products of the company.
These coconut chips are made from harvesting mature Thai coconuts, and using thick, fresh pieces of coconut meat that is toasted to perfection using a traditional Thai recipe.
These chips are beautifully crisp with a beautiful hint of nuttiness from the toasting. I like that they are really thin as it really contributes to a light crunch.
These chips are also very versatile, allowing you to eat them alone, or toss them on top of ice cream, salads or smoothies.

Dang Foods, Rice Chips, Toasted Sesame
- Gluten-free
- Vegan
- Non-GMO
Ingredients: Sticky-rice, white sesame, cane sugar, palm fruit oil, black sesame, coconut milk, watermelon juice, salt
These toasted sesame rice chips are inspired by the Northern Thai street food – Khao taen, which is made by soaking sticky rice in watermelon juice and coconut milk, and then steaming and deep frying it to crispy perfection.
These rice chips are super crispy and have a nutty and sweet caramelised flavour that is very addictive. Soaking the rice in coconut milk and watermelon juice gives it a beautiful, complex flavour, something I’ve not tasted before in rice chips.
This can definitely be finished in one seating, you have been warned! 😄

Ingredients: Rice noodles (rice, starch), natural flavors, organic sugar, yeast extracts, onion, garlic, tapioca maltodextrin, sea salt, green onion, sesame, spices, paprika, turmeric
DrMcDougall’s range of vegan instant cup noodles make easy, fast and delicious meals if you’re pressed for time. Simply add hot water and you’re good to go! They also have a pretty clean ingredients list for a cup noodle, which is a plus!
I find that these make good “emergency” meals and I keep a stash at work for times when I don’t have time to eat. Though I will add that portion size is a bit small and you will definitely need to supplement your meal with other snacks!
This cup noodle soup has a very delicious soup base that has robust flavour. I describe it as a really tasty veggie broth with an oniony flavour. It is also adequately salty for those salt lovers, and hits the spot for a savoury soup.
If you are able to, you can also jazz up your noodles with some added spinach or other choice of veggies, which will make it even more excellent 😄
