For nearly two decades, Dr. McDougall’s Right Foods has been dedicated to making wholesome, plant-based meals accessible to everyone. The founder, Dr. John McDougall, is a best-selling author and board-certified internist. He has spent over 30 years educating people on the power of a plant-based, heart-healthy diet rich in whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes, with the brand’s mission rooted in the belief that food should nourish both body and mind.
Their product range consists of noodle cups, soups cups and ready-to-serve soups. They have 4 gluten-free vegan offerings, 2 of which are noodle cups (Spring Onion, Pad Thai), and the other 2 are soup cups (Black Bean and Lime Soup, Split Pea Soup).
The ingredients are pretty clean, without all the common unhealthy stuff you’d find in cup noodles like MSG, canola oil/rapeseed oil, preservatives or colourants.
Pad Thai

The dehydrated rice noodles in these cup noodles come in short pieces, so you can easily eat this with a spoon. No need for any fork or chopsticks! There are also bits of dehydrated carrot noted in this Pad Thai flavour.
The instructions for this cup noodle say to cook it in the microwave, but I’ve actually never tried that before. I have always done it the traditional way by pouring hot water in. Just cover and let it sit for about 10 minutes, works fine every time 😊

Not to disappoint any Pad Thai lovers out there, but taste-wise, this tastes nothing like Pad Thai. Frankly, I was confused when I first saw this flavour, since Pad Thai is traditionally a stir-fried dry noodle dish. Pad Thai as a soup or noodle soup is actually unheard of in Asia. Similar to “Singapore noodles”, you can never find this noodle in Singapore, because it doesn’t exist 😄
Okay I digress. Now we understand that “Pad Thai noodle soup” is a westernised take on an Asian-inspired dish, and not meant to taste exactly like it. Flavour-wise, it tastes pretty good if we are to judge it on its own.
It is slightly tangy and refreshing, with the lime juice powder and tamarind coming through. The taste is pretty light, mildly salty with a hint of cumin. A fresh and savoury veggie soup that will appeal to those who enjoy a mild sour kick to their soup.
Spring Onion

Next up, we have the Spring Onion flavour. This is my favourite of the 2 flavours, which I’ve featured in my list of favourite savoury snacks to buy.

Everything is pretty similar to the Pad Thai before constituting, except for the dehydrated carrots. This one doesn’t have any larger pieces of vegetables added, only small bits of green onion as you can see below.

Flavour-wise, this soup is really bold and robust. The onion taste is strong and contributes to a really flavourful soup. It is also a tad saltier than the Pad Thai flavour. Overall, I think this would suit someone who loves rich and hearty flavours. I definitely drank this to the very last drop.
Portion-wise, I must say that these cup noodles are a bit small. I tend to still be hungry after eating them, so definitely keep in mind that you will need another snack to fill you up properly if you’re having it for lunch or dinner. If you are able to, try adding fresh veggies to your soup, which can help bulk your meal up and satiate you better, with bonus added nutrients.
Nonetheless, these noodle cups from Dr McDougall’s make fast and easy meals, great for busy people who have no time to eat. Keep a stash at work or home, and never go hungry 😉
