Their name describes them aptly. Real Food is indeed what their name represents, serving wholesome vegetarian meals made from wholefood ingredients sans any nasty preservatives.
They pride themselves in serving slow food that is made from scratch. Everything is made small batches and by traditional methods, such as their dumplings and springrolls. Salad dressings are also housemade with 100% vegan and organic ingredients with no thickenings, unhealthy oils, sugar, vinegar, citric acid or yeast!
They have 2 locations, one in Orchard and the other in Yishun. The one I visited was the one at Orchard Central. The restaurant is located at a quiet corner lot within the mall at level 2.
The place is spacious with many different types of seating available, depending on whether you are there to dine or just chill with a book.
When dining in, do refer to their online menu as it specifies if each item on the menu is gluten-free, vegan, contains soy, eggs or nuts. The menu that you scan the QR code to order does not specify these.
For drinks we ordered their organic cold-pressed juices. The Green Vegetable Mix juice is a blend of spinach, celery and cucumber. The juices came without ice (which I prefer) and in a really small glass, which I thought was too little for the price.
For mains, we got a pasta and a burger. Had initially wanted to try their pizzas, but they were sadly out of the gluten-free base.
For the Mushroom Aglio Olio, gluten-free pasta request comes with additional $3.00 charge.
The penne was beautifully al dente, and mushrooms perfectly sauteed in the aromatic flavours of garlic and olive oil. A tantalizing umami treat! You really can’t go wrong with an aglio olio, would definitely order this again! However I do wish that the portion was a little bit bigger.
For the burgers on the menu, you can choose any 2 sides of your choice. I chose the fried potato wedges and the fresh green salad with vegan dressing. For the bun, a gluten-free muffin swap was an additional $2.00.
The muffin bun was pretty nice. It was not overly hard like how most gluten-free buns are. It was surprisingly soft and fluffy on the inside. I also appreciate that it was not too thick so it was much easier to eat as well. The quinoa and lentil patty was lovely, perfectly crumbed and crispy on the outside. It did get a bit messy eating as it fell apart easily. The patty had bits of coriander and a slight tang of either lime or lemon juice. Overall a pretty yummy vegan patty.
The potato wedges were a mix of sweet potato and potatoes. Only 5 sad potatoes were given, definitely could do with more 🥲 The sweet potatoes were delightfully crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The potatoes on the other hand were not crispy and tasted more like baked potatoes.
Overall a great place to dine, serving up healthy, REAL FOOD 😉. My only gripe is that portions could be bigger, and dessert would be great to have, as that would really round up a meal nicely.
