The Goodness Company is a Singaporean brand selling chocolate-covered dates. They use the finest dates sourced from the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and do not use any refined sugar, dairy, or artificial additives in their products. With a focus on simple, plant-based ingredients, they are committed to crafting snacks that are both delicious and nourishing.

I love this idea of chocolate-covered dates. They used to also sell chocolate bars sweetened with date powder, but I don’t see that on their website anymore. Their current product offerings are their Chocolate Date Bites that come in 4 flavours – Salted Almond, Sesame Cashew, Crunchy Pistachio and Toasted Hazelnut.

Although the ingredients for these date bites are naturally gluten-free, I have checked with the company and they confirmed that the products are not suitable for coeliacs as the facility also handles wheat products, hence a possibility for cross contamination. These should be okay for those that are gluten-intolerant.

Crunchy Pistachio

Ingredients: Dates, Chocolate (Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Date Powder, Sunflower Lecithin), Pistachio

From the ingredients list, you can see that this product is pretty clean. It is completely free from refined sugar, including the chocolate, which is pretty rare. Most chocolate uses cane sugar, but this one uses date powder instead, which is excellent as fibre is retained and does not cause any spikes in blood sugar levels. There are also no artificial or natural flavourings used, just the taste of pure whole foods itself ✨

When I first opened the packaging, I got to admit that I was surprised at how small the date was. In my mind I was expecting the size of a medjool date but I guess this is a different species.

Taste-wise I’d say that this was pretty average tasting, not particularly wowed in any way. You have a decent coating of chocolate over the date, with one pistachio on top and another inside the date. The date has a nice sticky texture and caramel taste which I liken to medjool dates. The chocolate used was not particularly dark, I would guess maybe about 55%.

Toasted Hazelnut

Ingredients: Dates, Chocolate (Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Date Powder, Sunflower Lecithin), Hazelnut

This Toasted Hazelnut flavour is exactly the same as the Pistachio one, except for the type of nut used. Taste-wise, my sentiments are the same for this and the Pistachio one. Good amount of chocolate, nice sticky caramel-ey date with toasted nuts on the outside and inside.

Personally, I think a darker chocolate, perhaps about 72% and a little sea salt would have added a little extra “oomph” to the snack. Additionally, if they would have changed up the inside of the snack to be different from what is on top, that would give it better contrast in taste and textures. I imagine this would taste really good with a nut butter filling inside 😋

Either ways, I would still recommend this to someone who’s into clean eating and appreciates snacks on the go. This is truly a clean snack and these are really hard to find nowadays. One in its original form without additives and flavourings. The individual packaging also makes it convenient to have in your bag for times when you might get hungry.

I also think that this snack will appeal to milk chocolate lovers. Despite not having any “milk” in the chocolate, the level of “darkness” for this is pretty similar to milk chocolate.

If I were to guess who would not enjoy this snack, I would say those that are into more robust, full-bodied flavours, given that this is a snack made from simple whole foods without any added salt, artificial or natural flavourings, the taste is more simple and clean.
